In ambito ISO il Comitato Tecnico incaricato della stesura delle norme
relative ai sistemi di gestione per la qualità è l'ISO/TC
176 "Gestione e assicurazione della qualità"

Presidente: (fino al 2007) Dr. Trevor Smith (Canada)
Scopo: Normazione nel campo della gestione della qualità,
compreso il sistema qualità, all'assicurazione di qualità,
e delle tecnologie di supporto, comprese le norme che forniscono le linee
direttrici per la selezione e l'utilizzazione di queste norme. Ad esclusione
della preparazione delle norme relative a prodotti e servizi specifici
o a settori industriali specifici.
Nota: Il Technical Management Board dell'ISO ha dato incarico al
TC 176 di supportare l'insieme dei comitati tecnici dell'ISO nell'applicazione,
nelle loro tecnologie specifiche, della gestione della qualità
e l'assicurazione della qualità, al fine di garantire l'integrità
delle norme generiche del sistema qualità e di evitare la proliferazione
di norme ISO settoriali sul sistema qualità delle imprese che possono
portare alla frammentazione del sistema qualità delle aziende in
valutazioni multiple che comportano aumenti dei costi.
