 UCIR,
the Italian Association of Wheels Manufacturers, represents the major Italian
companies for castors and wheels and since 1998 it has gathered the adhesion
of companies operating in the field of wheels for furniture.Since 1973 UCIR has been operating within ANIMA (Federation of the Italian Association of Mechanical and Engineering Industries) and in 2000 it became independent Association whose scope is to safeguard its member companies, either at a national or international level. In fact UCIR is a member of Section IV "Castors and Wheels" of FEM (Fédération Européenne de la Manutention). UCIR carries out initiatives to support its companies either in the technical or economics field. UCIR participates with its own delegates in Section IV "Castors and Wheels" of FEM and in CEN (European Committee for Standardization) Technical Committee 324 "Castors and Wheels". At European level UCIR is going to develop new important arguments in particular concerning with fluidity and noise problems related to the using wheels. In 1995 UCIR published the document "Instruction for use", in Italian and English languages. In 1999 this guide was revised and now includes also wheels for furniture. This document is meant to give important information for the choice and the use of castors and wheels, helping in the following: • Choice verification • Installation • Correct use • Maintenance • Storage • Disposal UCIR is going to work out an European draft on pictographs (conventional symbols) for the product brochures. The Association carries out statistical survey monitoring the trend of the Italian and the European market.  ucir@anima-it.com
